Keeping Current On The Law: CILP & SmartCILP

Many online resources enable readers to create alerts to keep current on the latest legal information.

CILP

Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP) is a weekly list of recently published legal articles, organized by topic. CILP itself is not an email alerting service, but an indexing service that updates weekly. CILP has been maintained by the University of Washington School of Law’s Marian Gould Gallagher Law Library for nearly 90 years.

Smart CILP

SmartCILP is the weekly email service of CILP that can be customized to a user's interests.

Users may create a profile on the CILP page by selecting the 'Create New SmartCILP User' button on the CILP page. They will then be prompted to enter their institutional email to initiate the process.

SmartCILP profiles can be customized under three criteria - topic heading, subject heading and journal titles. Before creating a profile at the SmartCILP website, users must have a myHein profile set up, which will then enable the option to 'Manage SmartCILP Notifications' or access the SmartCILP Portal.

Further details and instructions on creating a SmartCILP account are available here.
