Introduction

The NYU School of Law Library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law. (Title 44 United States Code). 

The NYU School of Law Library is a selective United States Federal Depository. The library holds many of the law-related documents published by the United States government, including documents of the President, executive departments, Congress, the courts, and federal agencies. Materials come in a variety of formats including books, microform, and electronic products.

U.S. Depository Visitor Policy

Visitors to the Government Documents Collection (FDLP)

  • Members of the public wishing to view government documents in our collection may do so by making a pre-arranged appointment.  Appointments are generally available between 9AM and 5PM EST Monday to Thursday and 9AM and 2PM EST on Fridays.  To schedule an appointment, please send an e-mail to lawlib-access@nyu.edu at least 3 days before your intended visit.  Access for members of the public are governed by NYU University policies.
  • Our reference librarians provide assistance locating Federal Government information.  Reference librarians are available on-site and via telephone during our Reference Desk hours. Please check these hours if you are planning to visit.  
  • You may also contact the reference librarians via e-mail, Monday through Friday, at LawLibRef@mercury.law.nyu.edu. E-mail is monitored during Reference Desk hours. 
  • Be sure to bring a valid government-issued photo ID on the day of your confirmed visit.
  • We apologize for any inconvenience, but the non-depository collection is not open to the general public.  Please contact your local Public Access law library for assistance with locating non-government documents.
