Finding Books, Book Chapters, and Book Reviews: Locating Print Material in Library

Steps To Find Print Material in the Library

  • Search Julius, the Law Library catalog by author, title or keyword (or other available fields). For help on searching Julius, click here.
  • From the Julius record, check the status of the item. If available (i.e. not checked out), note the call number and the location for the item. (See information highlighted in yellow in the image to the right.)
  • Locations in Julius records correlate to areas within the Library, including the Main Reading Room, Reserve, or B1. If you are not sure where the area is in the Library, consult the Library maps or ask Library staff for assistance. Certain areas in the Library are generally closed to patrons (e.g., B5, Cohen Rare Book Room). To access materials from the Cohen Rare Book room, ask the Reference Desk staff for assistance. If you need an item from the B5, go to the Circulation Desk and place a retrieval request.
  • The call number, found on the item's spine, can be used to find the item in the pertinent area in the Library. If you only know an item's call number, you can often determine the area in the library where the item is located by consulting the call number guide.
