In addition to the ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility, state and local bar associations may also issue advisory opinions on ethical issues. In New York, ethics opinions are also issued by the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Professional Ethics and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York's Committee on Professional and Judicial Ethics. The opinions are advisory only - and address prospective conduct, not past conduct by an attorney.
