Empirical Research and Data Services

This guide provides information on the sources and services available to support the empirical research and data needs of the NYU Law community.

Data Services

Data Services is a joint service of New York University's Division of Libraries and Information Technology Services to support quantitative, qualitative, and geographical research at NYU. Data Services offers access to specialty software packages for statistical and qualitative data analysis. They provide training and support as well as consulting expertise for many aspects the research data lifecycle including access, analysis, collection development, data management, and data preservation. Data Services is part of Elmer Holmes Bobst Library's Research Commons, and is available to members of the law school community. Their staff offices and main lab are located on the 5th floor of Bobst.  

The Data Services lab is equipped with 26 lab workstations where faculty, students, and staff can receive consultations and access our workstations.  

Consultation is available by appointment through their online appointment form, via email, by telephone at 212-998-3434, or on a walk-in basis.

Statistical Software

The Data Services Department offers a variety of statistical software options, and provide instruction for the most commonly used software. Some statistical software packages are available for purchase through the NYU Computer Store or may be available for students on NYU's Virtual Computer Lab (VCL).

Statistical Software Instruction

The Data Services department at Bobst offers tutorials on a variety of statistical software packages.  For a schedule of upcoming tutorials, or to sign up for a tutorial, please visit the Data Services section on the Library Classes page on the Bobst website.  There are also documentation and resource training materials available to complement the tutorials.
