After earning degrees from New York University, Lyn (MA ’63) and Gilbert Kapelman (LLB ’63, LLM ’73) accumulated a diverse collection of books, photographs, and other items that reflect American culture from a century ago and longer. The contribution includes one of the finest collections of first editions of the novels of Horatio Alger, a best-selling American novelist of 19th century whose works Gil read as a child, as well as memorabilia from the United States' most popular amusement destination at the turn of the century, Coney Island, where Lyn and Gil's father grew up. With Lyn’s passing in 2021, Gil generously donated these special collections to NYU Law to share some of what made these eras of American history so rich and exciting.
