Finding Books, Book Chapters, and Book Reviews: Books Not Owned by NYU / Missing Library Items

If the Law Library doesn't own what you need in print or online:

First Step: Search BobCat, the catalog of Bobst Library (the main NYU library). If Bobst also doesn't have what you need, you have two options.

Second Step: Two Possible Options

Option 1: Placing an Interlibrary Loan Request: NYU Law faculty and students can place ILL requests for materials not available through the NYU Law Library or Bobst Library. Click on the FAQs to learn how long ILL requests normally take, what materials are generally not available through interlibrary loan, where Law Library patrons items should pick up and return ILL items, and so on.

Option 2: Using the item at a local library library: To learn local library holdings, use either local library catalogs or Worldcat. See the staff at Reference Desk BEFORE visiting local libraries as they may be closed to the public. In some cases (mostly for academic libraries), the Library may be able to provide NYU Law faculty and students a pass to access a local library. Your NYU Law ID will (at some times) permit you access to Columbia Law Library and Fordham Law Library. Restrictions apply, especially during "restricted access periods." 

Can't find a print Item that Julius indicates is available in the NYU Law Library? Not on the shelf? Here are three strategies to try:

• Check the table and carrels near the item's specified location.
• Ask the Library staff for help. You might inadvertently be looking in the wrong place.
• Check the Library re-shelving area, located on the south side of B1 level of the Library.
• Fill out a missing book form at the Law Library's Circulation Desk. Don't forget to include your email address so the Library staff can contact you if they find the book.
